SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM

The Service Learning Committee begins its second year in the 2009-2010 school year. This committee's purpose is to implement service learning activities for our K-8 program.

Service Learning provides an opportunity for our Bobcats to participate in not only an academic program, but it allows them an opportunity to reach out to their neighbors, community and the world around them with the gift of service. Service Learning truly gives legs to what our kids learn in the classroom.

Classroom projects become real when our students live them out in their everyday lives. This is the purpose of the District's Service Learning Program.

Our school Superintendent chairs the Service Learning Committee which includes representatives from our Board, faculty and staff. This year's agenda builds on our 2009 Community Ambassador Program which coordinated vocational learning in the Santa Ynez community. 8th Grade students visited local business people and merchants as ambassadors of our school to learn about potential careers or future potential jobs in the Santa Ynez Valley community. This year, these ambassadors will organize a School Career Day and Job Fair.
