Students in grades 1 through 8 have access to our library where they may select books to check out for the week and returned during their next library visit. Our library collection contains the majority of recommended books on the state core literature list. It is important that borrowed books be returned, or if lost or damaged, be replaced or paid for in a timely manner. We always welcome parent volunteers to help in our library. If you are interested in helping, please call the school office.

Some of the library programs offered are:

Grades 1 - 3 - students explore fiction versus non-fiction, learning about authors, illustrators, and how to locate their favorite books in the library. We have 3 computers to help students find books. The Librarian reads to the students, covering the themes of the 5 nominated books for the California Young Reader Medal. The students vote on their favorite book, and the results are sent in to the State program. Students also investigate foreign lands; students who have traveled to other countries are encouraged to bring souvenirs to share, and join in the discussion of folk tales and fairy tales from different lands. Students also become enchanted by author Hans Christian Andersen!

Grades 4 - 8 - students at this level are encouraged to check out books, and spend a considerable amount of time doing research for reports, such as States, Missions, Ancient Rome, the Mediterranean and Health.

The Accelerated Reader Program is offered in the Library as well. Students are able to read books and take a quiz in the Library on the available student computers; we have seen a great improvement in comprehension and vocabulary since adopting this program.

Author-Go-Round, the County sponsored program that exposes students to authors and illustrators, is attended annually by approximately 20 5th and 6th grade students. Students are encouraged to read specific books of the This field trip to Santa Barbara is enjoyed by both students and adults!
