In the core curriculum area of reading/lang arts, differentiated instruction is provided for all students, K-8, through Excellence: A Commitment To Every Learner Reading Program (ExCEL). For one hour each day, students are grouped according to reading levels into Advanced, Benchmark, Strategic, or Intensive reading groups. The groups are small, providing teachers with an excellent opportunity to individualize instruction.The Science Research Associates (SRA) reading program, novels and other supplemental materials and programs are used to meet the individual needs of each student. Our small class sizes and additional instructional personnel allow all reading students to receive more individual attention during the core reading language arts instructional time.
